Nature of Denmark

The Danish country is more or less flat with no major elevation at all. The highest natural point is about 171 meters high. Since the country consists by 443 islands flooding is a problem in some of the parts of the country.

Coastal Areas

The fact that the islands are dominating the Danish territory gives Denmark a long coastline of about 7314km in contrast to its 68km land border. Of the 443 islands and islets about 74 of them are inhabited. Almost every area of Denmark is lying close to the coast and no place have further then 52km to the sea.

Lakes

Less then 2% of Denmark’s area consist of lakes.

Forests and Woods

About 10% of Denmark is covered with forest containing mostly deciduous forest and more then half of it is planted.
